Everyone is familiar with the myriad of self-help books to do with developing your personality but how can I make my business more dynamic, interesting and cool?
It is the kind of thing that just comes naturally to some people, they manage to stand out despite not being the best looking in the room and ironically being the best looking in the room does not mean you are the most attractive person and the one who everyone wants to talk to.
It's the same story in the design world. Good looks are essential but personality is the x-factor.
Personality shares much with brand value but it is not the full story. Famous brands like Coke and McDonalds certainly have personality but quite safe, uninteresting and advertising led. These huge companies can afford the advertising spend to maintain their public personas, they certainly think they have buckets of personality but are the equivalent of the face lifted model at the party, everybody already knows who they are, constantly hear about them and are really nothing new.
Now that person over there however…
Whether we like it or not its personality that drives attractiveness. As businesses are far more visible than they used to be, the personality of a business is there for all to see and it is true that certain industries require more attention to personality than others. (e.g. service industries)
Advertising agencies are aware of this and go to great lengths to improve their clients business personality. It can be done with clever advertising but more astute methods are increasingly needed.
A well designed website is one of the best ways to define, refine and broadcast the personality of your business. It is an excellent way to standout in a crowded marketplace. On the internet personality matters and your conversion rates reveal just how developed your business personality is. Check your business website, is it Personality Plus or Plain Jane?
Think about it. When you are searching for something on the net not just browsing, where do you eventually put your money. Somewhere trustworthy, believable, authentic, and experienced, basically the "best one one I could find".
All these things are part of the personality of your business. Invest in it.
