Concrete 5 – A CMS for the 21st Century

I want to talk about Concrete 5, a CMS put together in Oregon USA thats been around for nearly a decade but has developed in the last 5 years or so into a convincing competitor to Joomla, Drupal and the likes.

So whats so cool about Concrete 5?

Firstly it's a CMS thats built for designers and it makes it easy to make great looking websites. Based on PHP it's a fast robust system that utilises a standard easy to understand interface that web designers will love to create upon.

Editable areas in the CMS are added with simple php include tages wrapped around standard

tags that make converting an existing HTML site a breeze. Coupled with this are numerous add ons (these cost) that can enhance your site and take it to an extremely professional level.

Some of Concrete 5's main features:

  • Extended sitemap with the ability to add, delete, optimise and customise pages
  • Excellent File Management with the ability to group files into custom sets and upload multiple files at a time.
  • Users and Groups section gives you the ability to create Personal Profiles of users including adding extra attributes and info to these profiles
  • Security that enables you to lock down whole areas of your site or oopen them up just to individuals
  • Adding pages automatically adds them to the navigation
  • Simple form creation and management with great ability to store databases of customers and queries
  • Theme based page layouts with templates and sungle pages that give real power over content creation
  • Custom add ons by the large and dedicated Concrete 5 community. (Some of these addons are a bit pricey) but can be easily built into the quote.
  • XML based sitemap creation, great for SEO

These of the top of my head features make creating very professional website very easy for the design oriented designer. You don't need to be a back end genius (although it does help) to build great sites with Concrete 5. It's very intuitive interface and block style content creation makes it easy to style typography and add pictures.

Included in this is a very cool Layout tool with makes adding multiple columns within a

tag a breeze. For anyone struggling with multi colmun css layouts this is a brilliant feature.

Most of all Touch-AKL uses and endorses Concrete 5 over and above other similar CMS's as it has we believe it has a forward thinking and keen following and a dedicated core team that are committed to making Concrete 5 the CMS of choice for the 21st century.

All hail Concrete 5!

Nigel
